Abū Ja‘far Al-Bāqir رحمه الله said:

“There were two guarantees from the punishment of Allāh, and one of them has been rescinded; it was Rasūlullāh ﷺ, as for the other, it is istighfār (seeking forgiveness), so hold fast to it, for Allāh عز وجل says, ‘And Allāh was not to send punishment upon them while you [O Prophet] were in their midst; nor would Allāh send punishment upon them while they are seeking forgiveness^[1].’”^[2]

ذكره القاري في المرقاة قال: قال أبو جعفر الباقر رحمه الله: “كان في الأرض أمانان من عذاب الله، وقد رُفع أحدهما، وهو رسول الله ﷺ، وأمّا الأمان الباقي، فالاستغفار، فتمَسَّكوا به، فالله جلّ وعلا يقول: وَمَا كَانَ اللّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَأَنتَ فِيهِمْ وَمَا كَانَ اللّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
